19 Feb 2008 - Copleston Under 12’s V Felixstowe Hawks U12’s – 10th February – CUP Game

What a thriller!!! This game wasn’t one for the weak hearted……

Jemma scored early from a mistake made by the Felixstowe keeper. Copleston kept the pressure on the Felixstowe defence with some good running off the ball by Jade and Jemma. Kathryn also continued to take some superb long throws and Lucy maintained a strong defence.

Just before half time a Felixstowe player made a ‘rush for our goal’ which Emily strongly blocked. Half time score Copleston 1-0. The start of the second half started a bit slow but once again the Copleston girls livened up. A good shot by Jade led to the ball hitting the cross bar and bouncing just near the line. There was a big cheer from the parents but unfortunately the goal was not given.

Copleston continued to maintain the pressure and the game became more tense and exciting and both teams knew they wanted it. Felixstowe then had a goal mouth scramble which lead to Felixstowe tying the score sheet to 1 goal each.

Rachel then took a good throw towards the Felixstowe goal maintaining the pressure.

The second Copleston goal came from a pass from Jemma leading to a striking shot in by Jade.

At this point there were gasps and cheers from the side line as it became much more intense and then Felixstowe again evened the score sheet making the final score 2-2.

At this point we knew it boiled down to penalties.

Felixstowe went first and Emily maintained her cool style and saved the first penalty. Jess, the captain took the first shot for Copleston and put it straight to the back of the net, but she had to retake it as the whistle had not been blown – she still struck the ball to the back of the net. Then Felixstowe got there next two goals and Rachel’s shot was saved and Kathryn came up trumps. The next shot by Felixstowe went wide and in turn Jade kept us in the running. Felixstowe then shot home for there last player which meant the pressure was now on for Jemma as our last player. The parents on the side line were all holding there breathe as the whistle blew. Jemma kicked the ball and as it hit the back of the net there were cheers and screams from the parents and the Copleston girls. Final score on penalties, Copleston 4, Felixstowe 3.

What a fantastic game and well deserved win by the girls. Well done.
