27 Feb 2008 - Thanks to BT for Community Champions Donation of £100

Telecoms giant BT has kindly donated £100 to Copleston Girls Football Club as part of their Community Champions Award.  The award was given to BT Communications manager, Matthew Steward of BT Property.

BT Community Champions recognises and rewards BT employees who do voluntary work in their spare time in their local community.

Two hundred and thirty one community groups around the UK have been awarded with a grant via the most recent round of the BT Community Champions scheme.  Winners support a wide selection of community activities ranging from theatre groups, hospital radio stations, mental health groups, swimming clubs, to mountain rescue teams and orchestras.

The internal award scheme has been in place since 1983 and awards £200,000 to local communities each year recognising the hours of dedication and service by BT people who volunteer at community groups on a regular basis.

Beth Courtier, BT's head of charity programmes said:  "At BT we are proud of the many volunteers within the company.  They really do make a difference to their local communities and are an inspiration for others.  All BT Community Champions contribute directly to their neighbourhoods and we're pleased to help Copleston Girls Football Club to continue their vital work.  Rewarding those who demonstrate continued dedication to their local charities and groups is our way of showing how valued volunteers are within BT."
