11 Mar 2008 - U13’s Cup Semi Final Match Report – Sunday 9th March – Copleston v Waveney
The Cops made the long drive to
The pre match team talk and post match wrestling pumped the girls up as they took the field. Waveney took an early lead but Copleston fought back and after a great move down the wing the ball was crossed for Ashleigh to narrowly shoot wide. An equaliser would have been deserved at this stage. The first half ebbed and flowed with Jess, and
The Waveney centre forward, Thomas, was in a different class and finished the half off with a hat trick. It was turning into a bit of a one girl show for the home side. Copleston had run their socks off in the first half and 3-0 was an unfair reflection on the first half.
Half Time – Waveney 3 – Copleston 0
The second half kicked off with Waveney attacking and the pressure told when Thomas scored another. She then knocked in another three to make it Thomas 7 Copleston 0. But credit to the sky blues who never gave up and tried their hardest to get a goal they so richly deserved. As the match drew to a close there was a shock as someone other then Thomas made it eight to Waveney.
There were some fantastic displays from everyone today. Bridie had the almost impossible task of marking the Waveney number 7 who is without doubt the best player in the league by a long way. The Waveney manager complimented Bridie on her performance at the end. Beth was outstanding today, showing what a great player she has become and the whole team stood up to be counted.
The score line does not in any way do justice to this performance by Copleston. They fought and battled hard with a great deal of skill and it was a super performance against a very good team and an exceptional player. The management team and all the supporters were rightly proud of the girls at the end. Well done to you all.
