Spring 2008
Chairman’s Welcome
Welcome you to the latest issue of Copz News. The season has now drawn to a close and we have had a successful time with the Under 11’s gaining the club its first silverware with a league and cup double. We also had four teams representing the club in the Cup Finals. Well done to the Under 10’s, Under 11’s, Under 12’s and Under 15’s. This was a tremendous achievement and one that was recognised in the Evening Star Grass Roots supplement. In the leagues we have proved competitive and we can look forward to next season with a lot of confidence.
Next season we will have an extra team with a new Under 10’s and everyone else moving up an age group. This will give us a full set of teams across the board and we are the only club in the league to do this. We will also be putting out an Under 16 team for the first time. This is quite an achievement and shows that the Club is moving forward rapidly and we have become the biggest girl’s football club in the league. This is something to be proud of. This is not only down to the Committee but a joint effort by the coaches, the team reps, the parents and of course the players.
Over the year we have also had three more of our coaches obtain FA Level 1 coaching badges and we have had each and adult member of the club obtain their CRB checks. We are currently working towards the FA Charter Standard and we hope to achieve this during the coming year.
We are holding the presentation night in May on the 23rd at St Clements Social Club and by now I hope you have all bought your tickets for what promises to be as great a night as usual. Our AGM is also being held at St Clements on the 2nd June at
8:00 pm
. All parents are welcome to attend and we value your input.
Well that is enough from me. I hope you enjoy Copz News and look forward to working with you all over the next season so we can carry on the good work and go from strength to strength. I would finally like to put on record my thanks to Club Secretary Carl Berriman, Treasurer Rick Double and our Welfare Officer Tracy Siggers as well as all the managers and coaches and team reps for all the hard work and dedication they have put into running our football club and without who we would not exist. Thank you from everyone involved with Copleston Girls Football Club.

Don’t forget to visit the club website for all the latest news and views on your teams. This is a site for news on your team, match reports, results, pictures and much more. There are also links to other girl’s football club websites and the league tables. It’s a long address but once bookmarked you shouldn’t have any trouble finding it.
We need more from the teams to make the website lively and fun so send in any news or suggestions that you have and persuade your managers to write some match reports. I am sure there are some budding journalists out there. There is also a guestbook where you can just leave a message of support for your team
Presentation Night
The Copleston Girls Presentation night is being held at St Clements Social Club on Friday the 23rd May. Each player will receive a trophy and there are also trophies for player’s player of the year, manager’s player of the year and club person of the year. Helen Bass from Suffolk FA and one of the best local women footballers will be presenting the trophies.
There will be a disco and a buffet and also the chance to win a signed
Football Boot Bank
Paul Cantin the Copleston Under 11’s manager is running a football boot bank. This is a scheme where you can donate or buy second hand football boots for a nominal cost. So if you have any old football boots that no longer fit you then please give them to your manager or team rep and they will pass them on to Paul. The boots will then be advertised on the club website for people to have a look at and pick up for the price of £1 which will go towards the clubs funds.
Saturday Morning Football Club
The Saturday Morning Football Club is still going strong and will continue to run over the summer at Copleston all weather pitch at
9:00 am
. We have used this event as a recruitment opportunity to get girls into the club and fill some of the places in the teams. Although called Copleston our club is available for girls from any school. So why not come along for a kick about and tell your friends who do not currently play football. They don’t know what they are missing out on. The Saturday club is aimed at the Under 9’s 10’s and 11’s. It is free and a good way to start your weekend.
Sponsorship
Unfortunately football clubs are not cheap to run. We do try to keep the cost down as much as possible and at the same time limit the number of fund raising activities we ask you, and your parents, to partake in. We are looking to raise funds for the clubs and are looking in particular for sponsorship for individual teams. We are incredibly grateful to the support we have already received from Paul Ryan’s Purple Rhino,
A-Plant and BT but we could do with some more support. If there are any parents out there who would like to sponsor their teams or obtain sponsorship through their employees then please let us know. We are particularly looking to get shirt sponsorship for our Under 10’s, 13’s, 14’s, 15’s and 16’s for next season. So please if you do have an opportunity to gain some sponsorship please speak to your team managers or Matthew Steward or Carl Berriman.
Individual teams may also like to look into fund raising events for their teams where they could invest the money into training equipment etc. Just a thought.
AGM
The Copleston Sports College Girls FC Annual General Meeting is taking place on
And finally
Well that’s it from Copz News for this edition. Let’s hope that we can carry on from where we left last season with the same level of dedication and enthusiasm for girl’s football. Let’s all remember that the most important thing about our club is that we enjoy ourselves. Football is meant to be fun so let’s make it so.
Come on the Copz.
