5 May 2008 - Copleston U15 v Brightlingsea U15 - Match Report - Sunday 4th May 2008

What a way to end the season!

0-1  down after 15 minutes,

1-1

2-1

2-2

2-3

3-3

4-3 in the 89th minute - it seems that the U15s have become masters of the great escape!

An ineffective first half display against just 8 Brightlingsea girls saw the Cops unexpectedly go in 2-1 up at half time, with goals from Sammy and Leah.

But the 8 visiting girls showed in the second half why Brightligsea has become perhaps the surprise team of the season and certainly the most improved.  First to the ball most of the time, they worked hard and pulled back the 1-2 deficit to take a well deserved 3-2 lead with around 20 minutes of play remaining.

That’s when Copleston finally turned up and put the visitors under a good deal of pressure.  A long ball through the middle saw Laura chasing hard and she was rewarded by getting to the ball ahead of a defender and the goalkeeper to coolly slot home and bring Copleston level.

We had to wait until the last minute before winning our first corner of the game.  All that training proved worthwhile again, with a fantastic corner from Leah which saw Laura direct a header past the flat footed visiting defence.  Probably one of the best goals we’ve scored all season and one which made the 3-4 defeat away to Brightlingsea (with a last minute penalty) a little easier to take.

So, the end of another season and one which the girls should look back on with a good deal of satisfaction.  Our recent form in particular since mid February has been very good – four wins and two draws in our last eight matches – the two we lost were the 3-4 match at Brightlingsea and the cup final.  A good run of form and a great team spirit to take into the summer tournaments.

Paul and I look forward to seeing you and congratulating you all at Presentation Night.  You’re a great bunch of young people to work with and we’re both proud to be associated with you in representing the Club.
