27 May 2008 - Copleston Girls Under 15's End of Season Review
The final league table didn’t really reflect how well the girls played throughout the season. Defensively we were one of the best teams in the league and our final points total might have been a lot higher if we’d had another Siobhan banging in the goals for us! But six defeats by just a single goal towards the start of the season meant that when it came to a close we finished in a very respectable mid table position.
Towards the end of the season our form was really good, with only two defeats in eight games, something which should see us join the under 16 league with a good deal of confidence.
Right from the start of the season I fancied this was going to be our cup year and the girls’ hard work was rewarded with a place in the cup final with the eventual league winners, Debenham. We didn’t win the match, but we won a lot of admirers and we had a great day – one I hope the girls will always remember – I know I will.
But better was yet to come and at the League 5 a side tournament in Framlingham, the under 15s came home with winners medals! Another great day and one in which all of the girls in the squad played their part.
11 girls won Girl of the Game awards on match days throughout the season and 6 were nominated for Players’ Player of the Year. That says a lot about the strength of the squad and what a great team spirit we have.
A big thank you to Paul Trenter for his enthusiasm and support throughout the year and to his wife Jeannette for acting as our Team Rep. Emily Driver’s dad, David, is to help us with the coaching next year and we look forward to that. New ideas and legs 15 years younger than mine should add a new dimension to training sessions! Expect to work hard!
On Presentation Night, Club Person of the Year went to Courtney Barker, Manager’s Player of the Year to Alysha Martin and Players’ Player of the Year Siobhan Hankers.
The under 15s are a fantastic group of young people who always give their best. The Club can be very proud of their efforts and of their conduct throughout the season. So well done and thank you to all of you.
Enjoy the summer break, then let’s do it all again!
