9 Jun 2008 - Under 13’s Singing in the rain at Stowupland as they win the Stow Tournament

The Copleston Girls under 13’s triumphed at the 2008 Stowupland Tournament on Saturday. This was the first competition Carl and Matt’s Sky Blue Army had won since they formed the team.

The rain fell constantly all day and every player, coach and supporter was soaked through to the skin. But the weather could not dampen the spirits of the Copleston team as they marched relentlessly to the final.

The group stages were won, 2-0, 6-1, 2-0 and 3-0 with thirteen goals scored and only one conceded. Becky, Ashleigh and Jazzy were almost unbeatable in goal. The goal scoring was being shared around with Ashleigh bagging a few and backed up by Kelly, Bridie, Jazzy, Jess and Becky. Only Naomi failed to find the net but her silky skills were creating the opportunities for the others.

The final was between Cops and Stow Falcons A. This was the first final our girls had been involved in and nerves were evident before the start. They were soon blown away when Ash scored a quality early goal. The second was even better by our goal machine Ashleigh. Jazzy completed the scoring to take the trophy against a spirited Stow team.

The smiles on the faces at the final whistle made standing in the torrential rain for seven hours worthwhile and the girls sportingly applauded the Stow team at the presentation before stepping up to receive their own trophies.

Thank you to Stow Falcons for a well run enjoyable day that the weather tried but could not ruin. And well done to all the Cops players, coaches and supporters for braving the weather. The parents support is really appreciated on what was a successful and friendly but very very wet day.
