Chairman’s Welcome

Well now the season has finished and we are all looking forward to the beginning of the next one and even in some extreme cases getting your football boots cleaned. I would like to welcome you to the first issue of Copz News. This is our very own newsletter which aims to keep you informed and up to date on what’s going on in the world of Copleston Sports College Girls Football Club and girl’s football in general.

Firstly I would like to introduce myself. I am the new Chairman of our club taking over from Paul Rutter, who put in many hours of hard work and dedication to get the club in the positive position that we now find ourselves. Paul has stepped down from the role as Chairman due to work commitments but will still be actively involved as Manager of the Under 14’s. I am sure you will all join me in thanking Paul for his efforts during his time in the hot seat. I work with the Under 13’s team along side Carl Berriman who was elected as the new club secretary. Carl has been a stalwart of the club for many years and I am delighted to have Carl along side me as Secretary.

Talking about all the new appointments I would like to share with you the results of the nominations from the CSCGFC AGM (That’s a lot of letters). The newly elected committee is as follows: -

Chairman                   Matthew Steward

Vice-Chair                   Sue Rutter

Secretary                    Carl Berriman

Treasurer                    Rick Double

Welfare Officer           Tracy Siggers

For next season we are looking to run teams in all the age groups from Under 10’s to Under 15’s dependant on getting enough players and parents to help run the teams. We are particularly looking for girls and parents to be involved in the newly formed Under 12’s. This is school year six and seven (at the start of the season). So if you know of people interested then please get them to come along to the Saturday Morning Football Club at Copleston High School All Weather pitch at .

Well that is enough from me. I hope you enjoy Copz News and look forward to working with you all over the next season so we can carry on the good work and go from strength to strength.

Fees for next season

The club is in a good financial position at present so we have been able to keep the signing on and training fees to the same level as last year. The fees will be a £10.00 signing on fee and training fee of £25.00 split into two payments of £12.50 in September and January. Match subs will also stay the same at £3.00 per game. Your team manager will instruct you when this has to be paid.

Copleston Girls Website

The club website is up and running at the address above. This is a site for news on your team, results, pictures and much more. It’s a long address but once bookmarked you shouldn’t have any trouble finding it. We need more from the teams to make the website lively and fun so send in any news or suggestions that you have and persuade your managers to write some match reports. I am sure there are some budding journalists out there.

New Badge for Copleston Girls

Sophie O’Brien was the winner of the competition to design the Copleston Girls Football Club badge. Her effort featured a football and the Copleston torch to build on the close relationship we have with the school and also give us our own identity.

Sophie’s drawing was kindly converted into graphics by the Evening Star, who also ran a story on her and the club in their Grass Roots section of the newspaper. The badge will feature on our website, newsletters and we are also getting them made for team kit.

Saturday Morning Football Club

We are again running the Saturday Morning Football Club this year for new and old players to come along and have a training session and a kick around on Saturday mornings at in the morning on the all weather pitches at Copleston (Yes we know it’s early). We have used this event as a recruitment opportunity to get girls into the club and fill some of the places in the team. Although called Copleston our club is available for girls from any school. So why not come along for a kick about and tell your friends who do not currently play football. They don’t know what they are missing out on.

And finally

Well that’s it from Copz News for this edition. Let’s hope that we can carry on from where we left last season with the same level of dedication and enthusiasm for girl’s football. Let’s all remember that the most important thing about our club is that we enjoy ourselves. Football is meant to be fun so let’s make it so.

Come on the Copz.
