17 Sep 2007 - U15 Match Reports

Copleston v Debenham

Sunday 9th September

A fantastic game between two well matched sides ended with Debenham taking all three points in the U15s first match of the season.

Copleston looked in control from the start and deservedly took the lead when Sammy Squirrell notched up her first goal of the season.  Keep ‘em coming Sammy!

The most pleasing part of the Copleston performance was the quality of the football.  Good passing, good moving off the ball, good communication – all of the things that the girls have shown us that they can do in training – and it was great to see it all come together on match day.

With 75 minutes played, Debenham equalised and with only minutes remaining and tired legs all round, the visitors snatched the winner.

Bria Delaney and Emily Driver were deservedly chosen by their team mates as ‘Girl of the Game.’  Well done you two – and well done to everyone else.  It’s a long season ahead of us and if we carry on playing football of this quality we will enjoy ourselves and do well.

A disappointing result, but a performance to be proud of!

Woodbridge v Copleston

Sunday 16th September

What a fantastic advert for girls’ football this game turned out to be.  A seven goal thriller saw Woodbridge claim all three points, narrowly defeating Copleston by 4 goals to 3.

Two brilliant Woodbridge goals saw the hosts go two up in the first half, before Siobhan Hankers then scored two well taken goals herself to bring the teams level.  Woodbridge scored two more as the first half drew to a close to take a 4-2 lead at the interval.

Copleston dominated the second half and Sammy Squirrell’s scoring boots (thanks to her dad for bringing them) deservedly saw the visitors close the deficit midway through the second half.  Copleston piled on the pressure and the defenders stood firm to prevent further Woodbridge goals, but time ran out and the match ended in a 4-3 win for the home team.

Well done to the entire squad.  Courtney, Jess and Amy B (B is for Birthday) did themselves credit when they took part.  Siobhan, who really was on fire today, deservedly won ‘Girl of the Game.’

The quality of the football was again a pleasure to watch and the game was played in a competitive, but fair spirit.  Both sides received a warm round of applause from the spectators at the end.

Keep up the good work!
