6 Feb 2008 - Match report – Brandon U13 v Copleston U13 – 3rd February 2008

The long trip to Brandon Lasses came on the back of a good result in the cup last week. A convoy of cars made their way through the forest to arrive in good time.

This is about as good as it got and then it started to go all wrong. Brandon started the game at 100 miles an hour and quickly scored 3 goals before the Cops could even catch their breath. Half time came and it was probably as poorly as Cops had played all season. 9 goals had gone past Charlie in goal who had played really well and can’t be blamed for any of them.

Half time – Brandon Lasses 9 Copleston Girls 0

The half time team talk was about damage limitation. The girls were told to try some thing they had not done in the first half such as tackling. The talk seemed to work wonders and the first 20 minutes were more or less played in the Brandon half. Cops had a few chances to test the keeper and were unlucky not to get on the score sheet. The girls worked really hard in the second half and it was like a different team had taken to the field. Ashleigh and Mema worked especially hard in the second half.  The hard work and travel finally took there toll and Brandon slipped in four late goals. Charlie in goal was outstanding today and even played on with an injury so as not to let the team down.  So some things to take away about playing for a whole game and not just half of it.

The day still had some more disasters to come. On the journey home the car with all the management team blew up and left them stranded ten miles outside of Ipswich with a dead car. Thankfully a very very nice man from the AA took them home. Anyone got a spare few grand for a new car?
